Citrus Expo Show Director Excited for What’s Ahead

Josh McGill

The 2017 Citrus Expo is a little over a week away, and the Expo staff is busy putting the last touches on the event. Josh McGill, Citrus Expo show director, is especially excited for the event to begin.

McGill is looking forward to all the new things the Expo is offering growers this year. “We’re especially proud to have Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and Congressman Tom Rooney coming to the event to walk the trade show, to meet with growers and to get an update on the state of the industry,” McGill says.

As always, the Florida FFA raffle includes some fantastic prizes, such as a backyard smoker donated by Hays LTI. Secretary Perdue will end his visit by drawing the winning FFA raffle tickets alongside Miss Florida Citrus, Rachel Smith. The FFA drawing will take place on Wednesday, August 16, at 4:45 p.m. You must be present to win. You can buy tickets online or from an FFA officer on the trade show floor.

McGill says Citrus Expo takes pride in its partnership with Florida FFA. The newly elected Florida FFA officers join the Citrus Expo staff to work the event every year. “It’s a good way to introduce the FFA kids to the citrus industry and get them in front of that crowd, because they don’t have an opportunity to otherwise,” McGill explains.

The seminar program will be one to remember this year, as researchers deliver presentations on the latest citrus greening research, as well as the results from the 2017 bactericide survey. The bactericide survey is still open. Take the survey to contribute to the citrus industry. You can find a link to the survey on the Citrus Expo website, along with a full Citrus Expo program.

Citrus Expo will be held August 16–17 at the Lee Civic Center in North Fort Myers, Florida. Pre-registration is open. All pre-registered growers will be eligible for a chance to win a John Deere gun safe courtesy of Everglades Equipment Group. Pre-registration ends Monday, August 14 at 11:59 p.m., so don’t wait; register now.
