Jack Payne on UF/IFAS Involvement at Citrus Expo

Jack Payne

Researchers from the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) have always played a major role in ensuring the Citrus Expo educational program is packed with the latest information for growers. Jack Payne, senior vice president for agriculture and natural resources and leader of UF/IFAS, said Expo is an event that his team looks forward to every year.

Since Citrus Expo is adding vegetable and specialty crop growers to the attendee mix, more researchers from both the Citrus Research and Education Center and the Southwest Florida Research and Education Center (SWFREC) are involved in this year’s educational program.

Payne mentioned a few faculty members that will be bringing cutting-edge research to the table this year. One of those researchers is plant breeder Jude Grosser. Grosser will be presenting new citrus scions and rootstocks that he has been working with. Also, a newer faculty member at the SWFREC, Sarah Strauss, will be presenting in both the citrus program and the vegetable and specialty crop program. She will be talking about the latest research on microbial communities. Read more about her presentations here.

The UF/IFAS booth on the trade show floor is always a great stop for growers. UF/IFAS fills its booth with new research findings and Extension professionals to answer any questions growers may have.

Payne said the booth is an easy way to find out what UF/IFAS has been up to recently and what’s next in regard to research. You can find the UF/IFAS canker and greening booth in the center of the trade show floor in booths 311 and 411.
