Partnership Between Florida FFA, Citrus Expo Continues

The goal of Citrus Expo is not only to have a great event that brings together members of the citrus industry, but also to bring in agricultural students to show them opportunities for careers in the industry. It’s with this goal in mind that Citrus Expo and the Florida Future Farmers of America (FFA) began their partnership.

Ties between the Florida FFA and Citrus Expo have gone on now for seven or eight years, says Ronnie Simmons, executive director of the Florida FFA Association. He looks forward to those ties continuing.

Simmons says the state FFA officers work the Citrus Expo every year and help out wherever needed.

“We also have an FFA fundraiser there, where the FFA officers sell tickets and build relationships with those expo-goers that are there,” says Simmons. The proceeds from the fundraiser help the FFA spread its mission in Florida. FFA fundraiser raffle tickets can be purchased online.

Simmons says he looks forward to being at the Citrus Expo in August, which he describes as a great connection between the FFA and the citrus industry. The event takes place at the Lee Civic Center in North Fort Myers on August 16–17.

Pre-registration for Citrus Expo is now open! All pre-registered growers will be eligible to win a John Deere gun safe courtesy of Everglades Equipment Group. As growers pre-register online, they are encouraged to participate in a very short, anonymous survey on bactericide use. Take the survey here. Conducted by AgNet Media in cooperation with the Citrus Research and Development Foundation, the 2017 survey will build on knowledge gathered from the 2016 survey. Results of the survey will be presented during the Citrus Expo seminar program.

Complete details on the seminar schedule will be available soon. To learn more about Citrus Expo, or to register, visit CitrusExpo.net.
