For many Florida farmers and ranchers, “A Land Remembered” is a treasured piece of historical fiction. The novel chronicles the lives of three generations of the MacIvey family in Florida from the 1850s to the 1960s.
There has been a lot of buzz about a new TV series that is being made based on the book. Todd Wiseman Jr., who is producing and directing the series, will be a featured speaker during this year’s Citrus & Specialty Crop Expo in downtown Fort Myers. The event is scheduled for Aug. 12–13 at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center.

The production of the first season of the series is underway, and Wiseman will give Expo attendees a behind-the-scenes look at filming progress and what’s to come. The project has generated excitement in Florida for its potential to bring the state’s pioneer history, citrus and cattle culture to a wider audience through the sweeping story of the MacIvey family.
“When I first moved to Florida and began interviewing growers for stories, many would ask me: ‘You’ve read “A Land Remembered,” right?,’” said Frank Giles, AgNet Media editor-in-chief. “After about a year or so of this, I decided I had better read this book in order to better connect with growers. I did, and it is one of my favorite books. I’m thrilled it is being turned into a TV series, and AgNet Media is excited to have Mr. Wiseman speak at the Expo.”
A full slate of educational opportunities will be available at the event. There will be separate seminar tracks for citrus and specialty crop production. The trade show, which is only steps from the seminar area, will feature many of the products and services growers need to produce their crops. Plenty of breaks are mixed in with the seminar programming so growers can visit the trade show and network with their peers.
Event registration is now open, with complimentary admission available for commercial growers. Preregistered growers will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a John Deere gun safe, courtesy of Everglades Equipment Group. Companies interested in exhibiting still have opportunities to secure booth space on the trade show floor. Find more information here.
