The Citrus Research and Field Trial (CRAFT) Foundation received another large infusion of funds from the Florida Legislature during its session this spring. Approximately $160 million will be going toward funding new planting and existing tree therapy projects for citrus growers.
The CRAFT team will be giving an update on the rollout of the new cycle of funding during the Citrus & Specialty Crop Expo. The event is scheduled for Aug. 12-13 at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center and adjoining Luminary Hotel in downtown Fort Myers.
Many growers have called CRAFT a “lifeline” for Florida citrus because it has encouraged the planting of many thousands of trees since its inception. From last year’s funding from the legislature alone, nearly 2.5 million trees were contracted to be planted via CRAFT, with nearly 300,000 of those trees including the new CRISPR-edited rootstock.
The new CRAFT Fast Track Program was responsible for planting more than 362,000 trees between August and December 2025. The program helped clear inventories from nurseries, so new trees can be propagated.
Growers will not want to miss the presentation from the CRAFT team to learn more about the organization’s impact to date and what to expect with the next cycle of funding. Register today for the Citrus & Specialty Crop Expo.
Event registration is now open, with complimentary admission available for commercial growers. Preregistered growers will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a John Deere gun safe, courtesy of Everglades Equipment Group. Companies interested in exhibiting still have opportunities to secure booth space on the trade show floor. Find more information here.
